Soybean Comment

Soybean prices posted solid gains today, with March closing above previous resistance at $13. Resistance will be at today’s high of $13.16 and $13.38. Look for gains in soybeans to be limited as the Brazilian crop continues to grow. The USDA increased the Brazilian crop another million tons last week, but the USDA estimate remains some 2 million tons lower than internal Brazilian estimates. The official Brazilian estimate is 90.3 million metric tons, but the Brazilian ag minister has recently been quoted as saying the crop there could easily top 95 million metric tons. As this South American crop is harvested and U.S. producers begin to make planting decision, the downside potential of this market remains far greater than the upside potential.

Wheat Comment

Wheat prices continued to rally today after a strong export on Monday provided the market with fundamental support for higher prices. While gains have been good on Monday and Tuesday, we still have not recovered all of Friday’s losses. This market remains oversold, and will likely begin to feel pressure from large global supplies. Wheat prices have resistance at $5.84, followed by $6.05.

Corn Comment

Technical selling in the corn market, pushed prices lower despite tighter supplies. The corn market fell lower today after prices failed to hold above support at $4.32. The market continues to look for more demand, as export inspections came in below expectations yesterday. Longer term this market continues to have upside potential if demand improves, particularly if export demand. Look for prices to continue in their sideways pattern between $4.20 and $4.40 until the market receives a fundamental signal to move higher. December corn continued to fall today, December corn has support at $4.50 and resistance at $4.61, if $4.61 can be broke look for price to test the next resistance level at $4.75.

Cotton Comment

Cotton price saw marginal gains again today. After trading higher much of the day, prices backed off and only saw minimum gains. Cotton gains continue to be limited by large global supplies; however uncertainty about the quality of those supplies and location continue to help support prices. Longer term look for concerns about China cotton policies begin to move back to the forefront and push cotton prices lower.
