Soybean Comment

While soybean export sales were very impressive, the market closed mixed with as old crop closed lower and gains in new crop. After being up early the old crop contracts closed lower today. Concerns over the size of the South American crop continue to limit gains and hold old crop soybeans below $13.50. New crop beans were up today and bids at Arkansas elevators are just pennies away from $11.50. If price continue to rally tomorrow producers will like find bids of $11.50 for this fall. If U.S. soybean acreage meets private estimates of between 5 and 6 million acre increase, we could soybean prices much lower at harvest assuming a good yield in 2014.

Wheat Comment

Wheat prices regained some of yesterday’s losses as export sales were within trade expectations. While this market remains oversold, weak corn prices and large global supplies make it difficult for wheat to maintain any significant gains. Look for wheat prices to continue to trend lower, as this market has large global stocks that will need to be consumed before prices can maintain any significant gains.

Corn Comment

Strong corn exports this week helped provide support for prices. While USDA reported some 120,000 MT of cancellations from unknown destination, the net sales this week were still 821,000 MT, 271,000 MT above trade expectations. Corn prices remain near the midpoint of the $4.20 - $4.40 trading range. With the threat of additional rejections by China, the market will likely have difficulty maintaining gains. Corn prices need to move higher and test resistance at $4.40 before we can be sure this market has put in its lows at $4.10.

Cotton Comment

Cotton price saw strong gains again today and broke through resistance at 85-cents to close above 86-cents. Strong exports continue to help support cotton prices. With large sales this week to Vietnam and Indonesia cotton sales were up big from last week. Improving economic indicators have traders optimistic about cotton demand. As the economy improves so does the consumer’s ability to purchase new clothing.

Rice Comment

Rice prices closed down across the board. A disappointing export sales report pushed prices lower. Today’s export sales were a meager 7,100 MT, a marketing year low. While U.S. supplies of rice remain tight, the lack of export demand continues to push prices lower. Resistance for March is Monday’s spike high of $15.74. Support begins at $15.36.
