Soybean Comment

Soybeans ended the day mixed. The market continues to be focused on supply, watching the weather and crop prospects in South America and speculating about U.S. acreage. The market is building on support at Friday’s lows. For March that is $12.62 ½, and for May it is $12.47 ½.

Wheat Comment

Wheat prices closed in positive territory as the market begins to worry about the impact of the current weather conditions on the 2014 wheat crop. Adding additional support was a new wheat sale to Egypt, which has historically been one of our best trading partners. These gains are likely to be short lived as the market begins to again move its focus to global fundamentals.

Corn Comment

Corn prices trades mixed today in a tight range between 0.25-cents higher to 2-cents lower. Corn prices continue to have difficulty making any significant gains, while demand continues to look good the market seems comfortable with the current supply of corn. With the current corn/soybean ratio still less than 2.5 the market is not as aggressive at trying to buy acreage at this time. Look for prices to stay locked in a sideways pattern until some significant fundamental news occurs to push prices higher.

Cotton Comment

Cotton prices saw modest gains today. While prices were well off their intraday highs, cotton did manage to post positive gains. With the market still concerned about the size of the U.S. crop, cotton prices could slow their decline as the market tries to buy acres. With the large global supplies and stagnant demand look for last week’s highs near 88-cents to be a new ceiling for this market.

Rice Comment

Rice was mixed with old crop contracts higher. While U.S. demand for rice remains good, large global supplies and increased export competition are limiting U.S. export opportunities. With news that the Thailand government is selling rice at a loss, look for U.S. exports to remain suppressed. Resistance for March is $15.74. Support begins at $15.36.

Cattle Comment

Cattle prices ended the day mostly lower. Tight supplies combined with record boxed beef prices continue to support prices, as has recent weakness in corn prices. Nearby futures are extremely overbought at this point. April held above Monday’s low of $139.45 today.
