Soybean Comment

Soybeans charted big losses in early dealings, but turned around to end the day mostly higher. Export shipments of 2.11 million metric tons exceeded expectations. Export sales, on the other hand, were a bit disappointing, coming in at the very bottom of trade expectations. China was the leading buyer. The market continues to be focused on supply, watching the weather and crop prospects in South America and speculating about U.S. acreage. The market is bracing for demand to shift to South America. Gulf basis levels continue to drop, but so far weekly export reports haven’t shown much of a slow-down. Also, so far, Chinese cancellations that have been speculated about and expected haven’t materialized. March found support at $12.60 while new crop November tested the water below $11.

Corn Comment

Corn prices rose today after another week of phenomenal export sales. While sales got off to a slow start the U.S. corn sales continue to post strong sales as this marketing year continues. Corn needs sales to remain strong to help support this market as traders at some point will being worrying about this large carryover and the potential of it getting larger in 2015. Corn prices continue to face difficulty breaking resistance at $4.35, a close above this is needed to open the potential for additional gains.

Cotton Comment

Cotton prices closed higher again today. Strong exports continue to support nearby prices, while global supplies continue to pressure new crop prices for December. With the strengthening dollar and large supplies the outlook remains bleak for cotton this fall.
