Arkansas Daily Grain Report

FOB Memphis Elevator Crops

Soybean Comment

November beans closed below $12 today, paving the way to further losses. There is still support at $11.86, and a close below that level would look quite bearish for prices. Beneficial rains have helped give the crop a boost. The USDA says that 63% of the crop is in good to excellent condition, 28% is fair, and only 9% is in the poor to very poor category. Basis bids have improved this week with little farmer selling reported.

Wheat Comment

Wheat prices were unable to sustain gains today, despite another positive export report. Weakness in the corn market spilled over into wheat; however, losses were limited due to good fundamentals. December wheat prices have resistance at $6.84 and support at $6.61.

Arkansas Daily Grain Report

FOB Memphis Elevator Crops

Corn Comment

Corn prices fell sharply today giving back the minimal gains over the last few days. Prices have put in a new low, and are now eying the $4.60 support level. Prices continue to fall lower as weather conditions across parts of the Midwest still look good, despite the market being oversold. The hope that the market would move into a sideways pattern ahead of the August report does not look likely. If prices fall below $4.60 the next support level is at $4.30. Weakness in this market is also spilling over into the 2014 crop. December 2014 contract put in a new contract low today at $4.98. Just a thought for those of you planning on corn next year, there is still pricing opportunities above $5.00 for the 2014 crop, but they are disappearing quickly.

Cotton Comment

Cotton prices closed with modest gains across the board. Strength in outside markets remains positive for cotton; however, the global supply situation continues to limit prices' ability to increase. Cotton remained locked in a sideways pattern with 82-cents being the floor and 87.5-cents being the ceiling for this market.

Rice Comment

The September rice futures contract appears to be consolidating between resistance at $16 and support at $15.62. USDA says 69% of the crop is still rated good to excellent. Tough competition on the export market could limit the upside. Cheaper Asian origin rice is making it hard for U.S. rice to compete.
