Arkansas Daily Grain Report

FOB Memphis Elevator Crops

Soybean Comment

November beans resumed their selloff yesterday. The chart continues to look quite negative. The next support for prices is at $11.40. With the next USDA report a week from today, expect price movement to be volatile as traders position themselves ahead of the next report. Just as a reminder, the next USDA report will include revisions from the resurveying following the June acreage report. USDA says that 64% of the crop is in good to excellent condition, but the crop is behind schedule, with only 39% of acres setting pods, compared to an average of 51%.

Wheat Comment

Wheat prices recovered some of yesterday’s losses. Wheat continues to have difficulty maintaining gains with the weakness in corn and soybean markets. Fresh fundamental news is needed for this market to continue to push higher as outside markets remain weak.

Arkansas Daily Grain Report

FOB Memphis Elevator Crops

Corn Comment

December corn prices continue to slide today. While overall prices were mixed, the market continues to move lower as expectations for this year’s crop remain big, despite a decline in good/excellent rating yesterday. While the market continues to slide, losses are getting smaller as the market waits for the USDA report next week. There is beginning to be concern over the effect of dry conditions in western Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska is having on this year’s crop. While the bears continue to dominate the market, we could be poised for a rally if this proves to have a significant effect on this year’s yield potential in the largest corn producing state. The market continues to maintain support at $4.50. Upside objective for this market would be about $4.80 and then $5.00 should the market turn higher.

Memphis, TN Cotton and Tobacco Programs

Cotton Comment

While grain prices continue to take a beating, cotton prices have remained relatively strong. Cotton continues in its sideways pattern trading within a penny of 85-cents for much of the last 2-weeks. This market has established a firm floor at 82-cents, and a ceiling at 89.5-cents. The December contract continues to hold in this tight range despite large global supplies, and private forecasts saying the U.S. crop will get bigger in the August Supply and Demand Report.

Rice Comment

September rice futures continue to consolidate between resistance at $16 and support at $15.62. The market charted a wide bearish reversal on Monday and that could signal a break from the consolidation range to the downside. The market did find support at $15.66 today. Tough competition on the export market could limit the upside. Cheaper Asian origin rice is making it hard for U.S. rice to compete. The USDA crop condition ratings were not changed much from last week to this week, with 70% of the crop in good to excellent condition.
