Soybean Comment

November beans were higher in early dealings, but turned to close a bit lower. The market has charted a bit of a bounce the last couple of days ahead of USDA’s production estimate that will be released Monday. Pre-report estimates have all been bullish for prices, but since a decrease in both acreage and yield are expected, it may not have much impact on prices. November will have resistance at today’s high of $11.82 and then $12.

Wheat Comment

Wheat prices weakened again today. Weakness in outside markets combined with a declining competitiveness in the global markets is causing wheat prices to weaken. With global stocks forecast to increase in Monday’s USDA report, U.S. wheat will need to become more competitive to maintain exports.

Arkansas Daily Grain Report

Corn Comment

Corn prices tumbled again today as the market prepares for Monday’s USDA report. The average market estimate is for 2013/14 stocks to be up slightly but remain just under the magic 2 billion bu number. The range is from 1,498 to 2,431 million bushels. The number on Monday will set the tone for the market heading into September. There is a lot of expectation for a big crop this year, and despite the market being oversold prices continue to fall. If stocks bump up to over 2 billion bu, prices are likely to fall and test support in the $4.30 range. If yield comes in unchanged or lower this will likely be bullish news for the market and some near term recovery for the market which will provide a new pricing opportunity. However, additional support will be needed to push prices close to $5.

Memphis, TN Cotton and Tobacco Programs

Cotton Comment

Cotton prices gave back some of their gains today as traders took some of their profit after strong gains on the week. Monday’s report may provide the catalyst for this market to test what seems to be its ceiling at 89.5-cents. While the U.S. supply situation may support a bullish move, weak global fundaments are likely to make it difficult for the market to break out of its established trading range between a floor at 82-cents, and a ceiling at 89.5-cents.

Rice Comment

September rice futures were lower again today. The market charted a wide bearish reversal on Monday and that has set the tone for the week. Several layers of support were violated on the way down, with the next technical support near $15.14. Tough competition on the export market is keeping a lid on the market despite a smaller crop. Cheaper Asian origin rice is making it hard for U.S. rice to compete. The USDA crop condition ratings were not changed much from last week to this week, with 70% of the crop in good to excellent condition.

Hog Comment

October hogs ended lower, but above early lows. The market looks likely to retest support at $82.93, and would need to close above resistance at $87 to negate the negative signal.
