Soybean Comment

Soybean prices experienced strong gains today as the USDA reports 1.6 million acres of prevented planting. This reduction will cause another decline in acreage, and will push stocks even lower. This news comes as South American growers prepare for the 2013/14 crop. High prices now will likely lead to additional soybean acres in Brazil and Argentina making up for losses in the U.S.

Wheat Comment

Wheat prices continue to ride the strength in outside markets. Bullish news for soybeans and corn has supplied some much needed strength in wheat. Unfortunately wheat gains will be limited as US wheat continues to be overpriced in global market.

Corn Comment

Corn prices soared today as FSA Prevented Planting showed more than 3 million acres of corn prevented planting. This news is likely help minimize additional losses in this market. Given that USDA yield estimate on Monday had such a short impact, the long term impact of this news is unclear. The USDA report still has a significant amount of demand cushion built into its estimate. If yields come in near the 160 bushel level, as many forecast, the ending stock will likely still exceed 2 billion bushels. Today's gains are hopefully an indication that the low earlier this week could be the seasonal low for this market.

Memphis, TN Cotton and Tobacco Programs

Cotton Comment

Cotton prices costed mixed today. While problems in this years crop, are supportive of near contract news that the Federal Reserve may change their policy is worrisome to the 2014 cotton market. If interest rates begin to rise we could likely see dollar start to rise, potentially hurting cotton exports.
