Soybean Comment

Soybeans have been on a bit of a roller coaster ride this week, up one day and down the next. Today saw strong gains charted. November was back above the dye $13 mark, but found resistance at $13.19 and backed down from there. Slight crop deterioration was confirmed by USDA yesterday, with the percentage of the crop in good to excellent slipping to 64%. Hot, dry forecasts have traders expecting more significant damage to yield potential to occur this week.

Wheat Comment

Wheat prices experienced marginal gains today as the other markets strengthen. While wheat continues to find support in the fact that Russian supplies continue to be forecast lower, U.S. wheat prices remain high relative to other suppliers in the market. Wheat prices maintain support in the $6.25 range.

Corn Comment

Corn prices rose today, as weather concerns moved back to the forefront. Corn prices will remain volatile as we move into harvest season, as the weather outlook changes traders will try and position themselves for the news of today and adjust tomorrow. Current dry weather across much of the Midwest is worrisome as much of the crop is just beginning to fill out ears. If this weather continues yield could potentially be very good can turn south quickly. While corn prices have seen significant strengthening over the last week December prices have been unable to sustain gains and break the $5 level. Prices continue to bum against long term trendline resistance with no success of closing above the resistance.

Memphis, TN Cotton and Tobacco Programs

Cotton Comment

Cotton prices continued sharp declines today as funds exited the market. December cotton is down almost 10-cents from last Friday. This is the largest 3-day decline for cotton since June of 2012 when prices lost almost 14-cents in 3-days. Cotton declines are likely not done as prices are moving closer to testing the 82-cent floor that has driven this market over the last few months. A close below 82-cents will signal a move towards support at 80-cents. After 80-cents cottons next support is at 75 and 70-cents.

Rice Comment

Rice futures were weaker today. November charted a bearish key reversal in Monday’s trade, and today’s losses do look worrisome. The market should find strong support at $15.15 and then again at $15. The condition of this year’s rice crop continues to look good, but farmers are worried that cool, cloudy conditions could negatively impact grain fill during heading.
