Soybean Comment

Soybeans continued the roller coaster ride this week, up one day and down the next. Today saw November fall back below the key $13 mark. The market failed at resistance at $13.19 yesterday and backed down from there. A disappointing export report today added to the negative undertone. Hot, dry forecasts have traders expecting more significant damage to yield potential to occur this week.

Corn Comment

Corn prices are down across the Board today. While the weather outlook remains hot and dry, the comments coming off the ProFarmer crop tour remain that potential is there for a good yield this year. Today’s losses likely mean we are going to have to wait a few more weeks for corn prices to move up and test the $5 level. If yields do remain strong going through harvest corn may have to wait till after the first of the year for the acreage battle before prices get the support they need to test $5.

Memphis, TN Cotton and Tobacco Programs

Cotton Comment

Cotton prices closed mixed to today with most contracts closing up slightly. With gains today, prices are likely to close up slightly again tomorrow as traders take some of their profit following sharp declines this week. The important thing over the next few days is if cotton will continue to strengthen and move towards the top of the trading range, or test the floor at 82-cents.

Rice Comment

Rice futures were weaker today. November charted a bearish key reversal in Monday’s trade, and have continued to chart losses. The market should find strong support at $15.15 and then again at $15. The condition of this year’s rice crop continues to look good, but farmers are worried that cool, cloudy conditions could negatively impact grain fill during heading.
