Soybean Comment

Soybeans continued the roller coaster ride this week, up one day and down the next. Today saw November prices move sharply higher testing highs from june near $13.30. Hot, dry forecasts have traders concerned about the yield potential of this crop. With tight supplies heading into this year, losses in production will force addition rationing in demand, and potentially reduce U.S. competitiveness in the international market.

Corn Comment

December corn prices closed the week on a positive note, after big losses on Wednesday and Thursday prices rebounded and managed to ink out a 7-cent increase for the week. Strength in the soybean market likely spilled over into corn as little has changed with the weather or with the ProFarmer crop tour. December corn will likely stay in the $4.50 to $5 range for the next couple of weeks as the market waits to see what the USDA has to say about the crop in the September market report. With the prevented planting report in one would expect acreage to decline; whereas yield will be the real wild card. If additional production decreases are seen the USDA will probably begin to adjust demand and maintain stocks above 2 billion bu.

Rice Comment

Rice futures closed with modest gains today. November charted a bearish key reversal in Monday’s trade, after losses for much of the week we are seeing some profit taking ahead of he weekend. The market maintains strong support at $15.15 and then again at $15. The condition of this year’s rice crop continues to look good, but farmers are worried that cool, cloudy conditions could negatively impact grain fill during heading.
