Soybean Comment

Soybeans were down double-digits today. Harvest pressure and market uncertainty due to the government shutdown are taking their toll on prices. Private estimates have the crop pegged at 22% harvested on average. There will, of course, be no USDA report this week. Technically, November is building on support at $12.63.

Arkansas Daily Grain Report

Wheat Comment

Wheat prices were slightly lower today. The market continues to trade under the expectation that reduced global supplies means U.S. wheat exports will remain strong. However, a strengthening dollar and weak global growth pressured prices lower today. With the weakness in the corn and soybean markets, wheat needs the export fundamentals to remain positive, as there are no USDA reports to support strengthening exports.

Corn Comment

Corn prices were unable to maintain support around $4.50 and fell sharply lower today. Just a few weeks ago the bulls were hoping for lower yields to boost prices; however the chances of this are getting less everyday as reported yields are very strong. The market is unclear what the acreage and yields are and will have to wait a little longer as the USDA announced it will not publish the supply and demand report on Friday. Once shutdown is over the market will likely be flooded with information: export numbers, acreage, yield, ect. This information will likely lead to increased volatility Inge the market. If yield continue their strength corn is likely to move towards the $4-$4.25 range.

Cotton Comment

Cotton prices weakened again today. A strengthening dollar and weak global growth pressured prices lower today. This combined with weak global fundamentals continues put cotton in an uphill battle to keep prices in the upper end of the 87-82 cent trading range. Losses this week have pushed prices close to oversold territory, which could provide support for this market later this week into next week.

Rice Comment

Rice futures traded in a wide range before closing lower. The market did, however, hold above support at Monday’s low of $14.69. On the weekly continuation, there is support at $14.63 and $14.50. Psychological resistance will be seen at $15 on a rebound. Harvest pressure and the expiration of the farm bill continue to weigh on rice futures. A 100 million metric ton stockpile of rice in Asia is also looming large over the market.

Cattle Comment

Cattle futures ended mixed after trading in a narrow range. Lower stock markets were troublesome, as the weakness calls in to question potential for meat demand. Also weighing on the market is the lack of market news from USDA due to the shutdown.
