Soybean Comment

Soybeans ended a bit lower today. The slow harvest pace is resulting in improved basis levels in some areas as supplies remain relatively tight. Private estimates have the crop pegged at 22% harvested on average. Brazil’s government released their forecast for the upcoming crop. They have the crop pegged at 87.6-89.7 million metric tons, besting last year’s record crop by as much as 10%. Technically, November is building on support at $12.63.

Wheat Comment

Wheat prices continued lower today. Prices remain soft as there has been no news any sizable sales in recent days. Wheat prices for next July remain close to the $7 mark. While normally December is the time you want to price wheat; producers may want to consider pricing some now. While the market has remained cautious during this shutdown, when back log of reports released price volatility likely to lead to big swings.

Corn Comment

Corn market remains weak. Corn prices found support today in rumors that China is buying U.S. corn. These shipments and sales remain unverified as Export Sales Reporting shutdown due to government shutdown. Reports of good yields and a quick harvest continue to weigh on prices preventing any major gains from the improved export report.

Memphis, TN Cotton and Tobacco Programs

Cotton Comment

Cotton prices continued lower today. December cotton remains above 82-ecnts but with outlook improving for the U.S. harvest prices will likely be pressured lower in the coming weeks. With no export news or supply and demand report from the U.S. the market will depend more heavily on outside markets for direction.

Rice Comment

Rice futures posted solid gains today after two weeks of mostly down days. News that Iraq included U.S. rice in their recent tender, buying 40,000 metric tons, gave the market a much needed boost. Technically the market is building support at Monday’s low of $14.69. On the weekly continuation, there is support at $14.63 and $14.50. Psychological resistance will be seen at $15 on a rebound. Harvest pressure and the expiration of the farm bill continue to weigh on rice futures. A 100 million metric ton stockpile of rice in Asia is also looming large over the market.

Cattle futures were lower across the board. Word that S. Korea will ban imports of U.S. beef because they found traces of Zilmax in a shipment weighed on the market today. Concerns about beef demand continue to trouble the market.
