SENATE APPROVES FARM BILL
On June 10, the U.S. Senate approved the farm bill (S. 954) with a vote of 66-27.  Arkansas Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman both voted in favor of the measure.  After passage of the farm bill, the Senate immediately pivoted to begin consideration of a bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform bill (S. 744).  Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) stated Monday that he hoped the Senate could vote for passage of an immigration bill by the 4th of July Congressional Recess, which will begin the weekend of June 28.


ARKANSAS WATER PLAN MEETINGS
Arkansas Natural Resources Commission have 4 public meetings on existing and future water use and needs forecasting during June of 2013. The schedule for the public meetings on the Arkansas Water Plan is as follows:

  • June 17, Jonesboro: Arkansas State University Convocation Center, 6:30 p.m.
  • June 18, Forrest City: East Arkansas Community College Fine Arts Center Banquet Hall, 6:30 p.m.
  • June 19, Heber Springs: Community Center, 5:30 p.m.
  • June 20, Smackover: Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources, 6:30 p.m.
