U.S. BEEF EXPORTS ON RECORD-SETTING PACE…..Beef exports for the first seven months of the year rose 9 percent ahead of the 2012 pace, which set a value record of $5.5 billion. Exports in July continued to push the numbers upward for 2013, with U.S. beef exports advancing 21.3 percent year-on-year to $622.8 million for the month. For the same period, export volume advanced 9.1 percent to 262.2 million pounds.

This growth was supported by strong results for exports to Japan in July (up 28.4 percent in value and 50 percent in volume); Mexico (up 25.7 percent in value and 6.4 percent in volume; Canada (up 13.8 percent in value and 10.7 percent in volume); and Hong Kong (up 242 percent in value and 136 percent in value) for the month.

The value of exporting U.S. beef reached a new high in the month, at $272.90 per head.

NATIONAL RICE MONTH PROCLAMATION . . . . . Thursday, September, 12, 2013, Governor Mike Beebe met with rice industry representatives, including ARFB Rice Division Chairman and State Board Member Joe Christian to sign a proclamation declaring September National Rice Month in Arkansas. Later in the day, a delegation from the rice industry presented a donation of over 120,000 pounds of rice to the Arkansas Rice Depot, a state-wide, faith-based food bank. According to Laura Rhea, CEO of Arkansas Rice Depot, the donation will provide over 1.3 million servings of rice to hungry Arkansans.
