Sheppard awarded Farm Bureau Vines Scholarship

LITTLE ROCK — Jeffrey Sheppard, a junior radio-television major at Arkansas State University, received the 2008 Arkansas Farm Bureau Marvin Vines Memorial Scholarship at the University’s College of Communications Honors Banquet April 9.
Sheppard, 29, a native of Peoria, Ill. and graduate of Illinois Central College, is specializing in audio-video production and has a 3.6 overall grade point average. He plans to further his education and obtain a master’s degree, before pursuing a career in television management or production. While at Illinois Central, Sheppard was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of Community Colleges, and received the President’s Award for maintaining a 3.5 or higher GPA. He is currently serving as vice president of the National Broadcasting Society chapter at ASU.
“I am very grateful to receive this scholarship,” Sheppard says. “It will definitely help me complete my education over the next two years. I am very honored that Arkansas Farm Bureau considered me worthy of this support.”
The scholarship is endowed by Arkansas Farm Bureau and was established in 1980 in memory of Marvin Vines, farm director for more than 25 years at Little Rock radio station KAAY. It is awarded annually to a deserving broadcast major at Arkansas State.
