State Dairy Foods Contest winners named
06/03/09

LITTLE ROCK — Daniel Phillips of Booneville (Logan County) and Bethany Runyan of Houston (Perry County) were winners at the 52nd annual Arkansas Dairy Foods Contest held June 3.

Phillips, 15, son of John and Catherine Phillips, took first in the Main Dish competition with “Seafood Lasagna.” Runyan, 14, daughter of Christopher and Heather Runyan took first in the Party Idea competition with “Apple Ice Cream Dream.”

Winners were awarded $150.

Contestants were judged on recipe, use of dairy products, originality, availability of ingredients, and serving technique. Arkansas Farm Bureau, Southwest Dairy Museum, and Arkansas Dairy Cooperative Association sponsored the event.

In the Main Dish competition, Aaron Kimbrough of Des Arc (Prairie County) took second with “Upside Down Deep Dish Pizza.” Rebeckha Cate of Paragould (Greene County) took third with “Taco Fiesta Cups.” Fourth place went to Stephanie Smith of Bee Branch (Van Buren County) with “Three Cheese Potatoes with Beef Sausage.”

In the Party Ideas competition, Samantha Dillard of El Dorado (Union County) took second with “Salsa Cheesecake.” Third place went to Clint Dawson of Heber Springs (Cleburne County) with “Warm and Creamy Bacon Dip.” Melissa Elliott of Benton (Saline County) took fourth with “Olive Cheese Bread.”

She received a $150 prize.
