The 2008 Ag Literacy Program selection is The Tree Farmer by Chuck Leavell. This is an excellent book for children in grades K – 2nd that does a wonderful job explaining how farmers care for their land and their environment. The main goal of any Ag-in-the-Classroom program is to increase agricultural awareness among the students in schools.  One easy way to accomplish this is through a reading program that introduces agricultural themes using books at their grade level.

Title: THE MUNCHSTERS TALK ABOUT FOOD

Description: Through the use of fantasy creatures called the Munchsters, this poster kit presents opportunities for developing the language skills of young children as well as introducing them to new foods and the importance of developing good eating habits.

The five full-color 22" x 14" posters feature the Munchsters engaging in food- or health-related activities while the reverse side of each poster has a lesson plan with language and cooking activities. Each poster in this kit can be used as a one-week or two-week unit of study.
