PODCAST: Smoke Management Guidelines

Listen to our interview with Arkansas Farm Bureau State Board Member Jon Carroll of Moro as he discusses the work of the Voluntary Smoke Management Guidelines Task Force recently formed by the state’s rice industry. The use of prescribed burning in harvested fields helps provide an efficient and economical control method for insects and weed seeds in rice crops. However, there is concern that, if burning is done under improper conditions, smoke from the burning stubble could cause health problems for sensitive individuals. Task force members are working together to find ways farmers can voluntarily manage this smoke from field burning to reduce the chances of associated health and environmental impacts.
